Sharing their stories with others was definately the highlight of the Book Launch.

Building bridges in Room 1

Monday 1st July.
This week we have been reading the traditional story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
Today the children were given the challenge of building a bridge that Our Troll could fit under and that would support the weight of the Billy Goats Gruff.  Children chose to work alone or as a group to construct a bridge.  Then Mrs Causer came around to do the testing.  The first test was to put the troll under the bridge - did it fit?  All of the bridges passed this test.  The next test was to put each of the goats on the bridge to see if it would support them.  2 bridges passed the test of supporting the Biggest Billy Goat Gruff and most of the others were able to support the weight of the Little Billy Goat Gruff.
It was really impressive watching the way that groups of children worked together to work out what they would use to build their bridge and how they were going to do it.  One group tried lots of different ways and supported each other beautifully through this process.

Working together to keep our School clean

Wednesday 1 July
As part of or Topic we went on a rubbish collecting mission around the school.  As part of topic this term we have been looking at the Hutt River, how we use it, where our water comes from and how we can help to keep it clean.  We have talked about how rubbish can  make it into the River and make the water unsafe for us to use.
We found an unbelievable amount of rubbish around the school.  We had 6 groups, each with a supermarket bag, and all the bags were pretty full.
Most of the rubbish was picked up on the field and around the middle school block.
We showed our bags of rubbish to Mrs Cole who told us that Room 2 had been out rubbish collecting yesterday and collected 3 supermarket bags full of rubbish.
How well are you caring for our environment???

Rugby Skills for the Junior School

Wednesday 1st July
Today Dan returned to school to work with the Junior School Children and teach them some Rugby warm ups, drills and skills.
The warm up alone had children puffing .  Then their were drills, that have everyone running and working together.  And then the skills.  Dan showed us how to hold a Rugby ball, so we would not drop it.  We had to run in and out of cones holding the ball and then throwing it in the air and catching it.
Another awesome PE slot with him.  Thanks Dan.

Room 7 come to visit and share their leaning

Friday 26th June.
What a great afternoon!  Today children from Room 7 came to visit Rooms 1, 2 and 6.  They have been learning about and researching Space and have made projects about their findings.  They came to share their learning with us.
It was really impressive.  All the different ways they presented their information and were able to present it to the Juniors.

PS - And it was PJ day
