EOTC Week - Tuesday

Junior Syndicate Church Visit

Today we all walked down to Our Lady of Grace Church.
We spent the day moving around three different activities.
1. Church Art - Room 6 completed some amazing Creation Art and Room 2 started some church Art.  We are hoping these will be displayed in the church soon.

2. Games and activities on the field.

3.  Father Ron showed us around the church. He talked about the different things inside and how they were used during Mass.

A big THANK YOU to Mrs Hey for planning our Day, to the lovely Mums who came along to help and to Father Ron for talking to us about the church.

Thursdays Prayer table

Look at the amazing prayer table children set up on Thursday.  And to finish it off we had beautiful sunshine streaming in the windows.  What an amazing world we live in.

Last week of swimming photos

Here are some photos from the last few days of swimming. The progress the children made was amazing.  From children who were able to submerge completely under water, children who got to swim in the deep pool and others who were able to swim 15 metres.

And for the very last 5 minutes of swimming this year, we were able to go down the slide.

Pumpkins, pictures and Snake Cake in Room 1

Friday 13 March
What a way to finish the week.  We finally cut up our big pumpkin but not before the children sketched it first.  As we cut it smaller and smaller the children's sketching got better and better. (It will be displayed in our room soon)

After a morning of sketching we spent the afternoon making and eating Snake Cake.  This week for our Shared reading we read the Big Book called The Snake Cake.  It was about a Queen who was tired of " Orange cakes and Lemon Cakes and Cakes with sultanas..."  So the children in the kingdom made her a different cake.
We had a great time working in groups icing biscuits, sticking them together and decorating our Snake Cakes.  The highlight had to be the eating of them - of course.

Making and tasting Salsa

Thursday 12 March
What a busy day in Room 1.  Some amazing illustrating of our published stories this morning, swimming in the middle and Salsa making and tasting this afternoon.  We used the tomatoes we harvested from the school garden yesterday  and followed a recipe we found on the internet.  I think most, if not all the children tried it and only one admitted they did not like it.  We had a group of 10 children who kept coming back for more.  What a great success!!!  Here's a few photos.  The other 86 photos will end up in our class book aptly titled "  Making Salsa in Room 1"

Proud of all our swimmers

It is only day 3 of swimming but we can already see confidence growing and children making great progress in their swimming.  Our group one children have been working hard on putting their heads under the water.  On Monday only two children could do it.  NOW most of the group can.  We are all very proud of you.

Prayers in the Garden

Wednesday 11 March 2015
This week we have been talking about and noticing Gods amazing creations in our world.  Yesterday we noticed the leaves on the trees changing colour and that Mr Kegan is busy sweeping up leaves every day (Thanks Steve)  Today we visited the School Garden to harvest tomatoes.  And look at all the amazing creations we found.
Harvesting the tomatoes.  We are going to make salsa tomorrow to have with corn chips.
Look how much our cabbages have grown.

A visit to the Garden would not be complete without a few creepy crawlies.  We left them in the Gardens.

We are not going to put this one in the salsa - but there were heaps of slaters and other bugs feeding off it.   FANTASTIC!!
